Veronica Jarvis Interview

nnToday, I had the absolute pleasure in interviewing the very talented Veronica Jarvis.  Now, for those of you who don’t know Veronica, she is this adorable young woman from Finland who had her first acting experience when she was in the second grade.  Her parents encouraged her creativity, so aside from acting, she also took dance lessons, gymnastics, and ice skating.  This girl can do it all!nnNow, onto the interview!nnSo, what’s the biggest risk you’ve taken that you feel has really helped you as an actor?n

• Moving to New York City when I was 19.  I didn’t know anyone on this whole continent! It made me grow up, be more independent and allow me to truly immerse myself in acting.  I couldn’t have done that in my home country of Finland.

nWhat is the biggest struggle you have faced in your career?n

• Perhaps the flat female characters, or sexist breakdowns of the characters and their motivations. It would be easy to do roles like that, especially money-wise, but I wouldn’t be comfortable nor really proud of what I’ve done. But things are changing, as we’ve been seeing lately! It’s amazing to see.

nI can definitely see how that can be a struggle.  In the past I would often think about how flat or almost boring the female roles were in movies or shows I was watching.  My first instinct was that they had to be written by men…  But you’re right.  Things ARE changing and I agree that it is truly amazing to see stronger, deeper female characters. nnHow do you prepare for a role?n

• I think about the motivations of the character. I also sometimes just write a diary as the character. I like writing so it’s easy for me to dive into the mind of a character. I like imagining the smallest details from their childhood to the history of the other characters my character is interacting with. It makes everything easier. I also use a lot of music to get me into a certain mood.

nSo now that I have asked the somewhat typical “actor” questions, let’s move onto chatting about some of your work.  Tell us about your role in the web series The Pantheon?n

• The web series is about ancient Greek gods working at a tech company and I play Clio, one of three muses.  I just loved the concept as soon as I read the breakdown for it when I got the audition.  I’ve had so much fun shooting it too!  I like shooting comedies because there is such great energy surrounding everyone on set. And you have the freedom to be overly dramatic without anyone judging you- haha!

nI got to see a bit of it and I can’t wait to watch more!  It is definitely a great idea for a show. nnWhat’s your favorite part of filming? I know it can’t be the early on set times.  Or can it?n

• My favorite part of filming is the whole day of filming. I love every second of it and to quote The Disaster Artist, even the worst day on set is the best day. I love being on set.

nWhen you aren’t working, what do you LOVE to do?n

• I LOVE to watch movies. I’m currently ticking off movies from the IMDb Top 250 list, I’m at 89. right now. Getting there! I also love walking dogs. I don’t have my own, so any dog that needs walking, I’ll do it.

nHoly cow that’s a lot of movies!  I need to look at that and see what ones I have missed.  And by the way, you really need a dog.  The photos of you and your friend’s dog are too cute!  That’s why I thought it was yours. nnI am in Los Angeles all the time, but after watching the video you did for Marriott Travel, I feel like I really need to be a tourist.  How was it filming that and going to all the fun places in LA?n

• It was amazing and we filmed all of it in only two days!  They were extremely well organized, so we managed to pull it off without problems.  It was so much fun getting to tour LA without having to drive myself or worry about finding parking, lol. Some of the places that we went to I’ve actually never even been to myself. One place, for example, Like The Roosevelt Hotel.  This allowed me to get to know my city a little bit better too.

nWe’ve covered a lot of stuff today, so let’s end this on a kind of silly note.  What’s your favorite Halloween costume?n

• My ancient roman warrior costume. It’s so cool, it has a white cape and everything.
