Robin Williams- Remembering the Man

On August 11, 2014, the world became a little less bright with the loss of the amazingly talented Robin Williams.  Many remember him for his comedic genius on and off the big screen, but for me, his most memorable roles were the dramatic ones.  When I heard the news of his passing, I started thinking of all the movies I had seen him in.  I then looked up his resume and realized that I had forgotten so many of his roles.  From Mork and Mindy to Good Will Hunting, the man’s work was genius.nnOn the last Popcorn Podcast I was on with Geeks With Wives, we discussed the loss of Robin Williams and how it affected us.  I found myself thinking about the exact moment I found out and realized how much the news truly saddened me.  I also found that strange as I had never met the man.  But in remembering his work, I finally understood that the reason it had affected me so was because of how real his characters felt.  There was something so remarkably pure, so relatable and you felt that connection.nnNow, I spent some time re-watching some of the films I grew up with and realized that although they were not as good as I had remembered, Robin Williams’ acting was still great.  For example, Hook did not hold up well for me over the years; however, Robin Williams’ ability to show a childlike innocence as an adult was beautiful.  You have to find that impressive.nnOnto a serious note:  I don’t care why he found it necessary to take his life.  He is not my immediate family and honestly, it’s none of any of our business.  It is such a shame that our society has turned into these celebrity news junkies where they need to know every single bit of someone’s life, invading their personal space just to get a sneak peek of the other half lives.  Their job is to entertain us, not to share every single detail of their lives.  All I can say is put yourself in their shoes.  Would you want someone watching you while you eat, following your every move, or even finding ways to record or photograph you in your own home?  I think not… We should all be respectful of each other.  If celebrities want you to know something, let them share it.  Most of them do.  But when they suffer a loss of a loved one, even if it is someone whom we respect, we should never pry.  Let them grieve in peace.nnNow, I shall step off of my soapbox.nnBefore I wrap this up, I wanted to mention some of the movies I think you MUST see.  DISCLAIMER: Many of these are dramatic, but well worth it.  I won’t be mentioning the super popular movies that all, aside from those who live under a rock have seen.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t like them.n
